Media Avoids Obvious Reason Pelosi Has Cooled on Impeachment

Historian Kevin Kruse points out that majority support for President Richard M. Nixon's removal didn't develop until after the impeachment inquiry commenced.

The key question for Democrats is whether to proceed with impeachment hearings if Republicans refuse to join in that endeavor.

"If the [reports] indicate that that's become necessary, then we must fulfil our oath and proceed with impeachment", said Rep Ilhan Omar, a freshman progressive firebrand. "Are we going to take on bigotry, or are we going to allow it to fester and grow?"

But a two-thirds majority in the Senate, which is controlled by Trump's Republican Party, is necessary to finalize an impeachment.

Not impeaching Trump would mean condoning conspiracy with Russian Federation to interfere in federal elections; conspiracy with Saudi Arabia to direct American foreign policy in exchange for financial favors done for the President and his family; use of the Presidency for self-enrichment; and a President's use of federal agencies to obstruct an investigation.

Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there's something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don't think we should go down that path, because it divides the country.

All of the entrances to the Temple Mount were ordered closed following the attack to enable police to search for weapons. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas denounced the "dangerous Israeli escalation" and warned of "serious repercussions".

Green said he would respect the House's role in the matter, and noted that President Andrew Johnson was impeached for much lesser offenses than Trump.

For one thing, Pelosi "didn't like the politics of the effort to impeach Bill Clinton, so I am not surprised that she is treading carefully here", longtime Democratic congressional adviser Jim Manley told The Epoch Times. "And I think that's good for America", she said, laughing.

In her first few months (again) as House speaker, Nancy Pelosi has managed two big challenges of the Trump era with great skill.

Green, of Houston, told Neil Cavuto that he is unconcerned as to whether the impeachment vote breaks the several-hundred-member threshold needed to start formal proceedings. "He has to think about impeachment a little bit".

"By sending this signal that Democrats won't impeach, reasoning goes that will make it more likely that the report will get released publicly".

Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings, one of the lawmakers leading those investigations, said he agrees with Pelosi and Congress needs "to do our homework". The Tennessee Democrat said he hasn't done so this session "because I don't think the votes are anywhere near being there". "So until they realize that - some evidence comes out that's akin to a smoking gun, they may not change".

Garneau said he will reverse the ban when he sees the "smoking gun that will explain what happened with this particular flight". The FAA said on Wednesday a software upgrade being worked on following the Lion Air crash would take months to complete.

We've seen the result when the House pursued impeachment despite the lack of consensus across the aisle for that action.

Regardless of whether Republicans get on board, Cohen sees the investigatory work the Judiciary Committee is doing as a "precursor to impeachment" that will eventually lead to that outcome. Is being shrewd really in the country's best interest if they think the president is guilty?

The House GOP's impeachment crusade against President Clinton helped inspire a backlash in 1996 that is credited with helping Democrats gain House seats.

"I know that this is hard for them to run against in 2020".

If Ms Pelosi's intent was to push back on suggestions that Democrats were interested only in Mr Trump's scalp, her words also prompted concern from some in her party who argue that they should not worry about the political ramifications of holding Mr Trump accountable.

"They always say represent your district".

The prime minister added: "We can not serve our country by overturning a democratic decision of the British people. Theresa May has claimed she still understands the voice of the country on Brexit despite losing her own.
