Mr Corbyn said MPs had "decisively rejected" both the Prime Minister's deal and the prospect of a no-deal divorce from the European Union as he said "Parliament must now take control".

"If she presses on with her own deal I think we still have to go on and look at other options and get a common goal".

"It's time that we have a general election and the people can choose who their government should be", Corbyn said on Tuesday after May suffered a humiliating 391 to 242 defeat when her Brexit deal was rejected by Parliament for a second time.

Theresa May has claimed she still understands the voice of the country on Brexit despite losing her own.

But she lost again after the new legal assurances secured from Brussels failed to convince either Tory backbench rebels or her allies in Northern Ireland's DUP.

"It is the Prime Minister's fault that we are potentially not going to be leaving the European Union on time".

Osaka advances in straight sets at Indian Wells
The 37-year-old won the first three games of the match but called for the trainer after losing six in succession to the Spaniard. Nadal, a three-time Indian Wells victor , needed just 72 minutes to get past over-matched Jared Donaldson, 6-1, 6-1.

The Labour leader told MPs they "must now take control".

The EU have said any extension would need a goal.

She said she was "not frightened" of the people in her Birmingham Yardley constituency who voted to leave, saying if they do not like her views they can vote her out.

Mrs May said MPs would have to decide whether they want to delay Brexit, hold another referendum, or whether they "want to leave with a deal but not this deal".

That's why some MPs are starting to say, as they did last time, it is unwise for her to keep marching into gunfire to do again what no prime minister had done in recent memory - to go into a crucial vote all but knowing you are going to lose, and lose badly.

In a statement, the Commission said it had put forward proposals to try and reassure MPs the backstop "if used will apply temporarily".

"The government's no deal impact assessment published just two weeks ago told us that "food prices are likely to increase", and that custom checks could cost business £13billion a year". In the last 24 hours Parliament has decisively rejected both her deal and no deal.

Corbyn added: "She needs now to show leadership".

There will be another vote this evening on whether MPs will block the United Kingdom from leaving the European Union with a no-deal.

"The EU has made it clear they would not accept elements of what is in the current Withdrawal Agreement without them being in a Withdrawal Agreement".

The prime minister added: "We can not serve our country by overturning a democratic decision of the British people. We are committed to ratifying this deal before 29 March".

"I'm not in any sense a fan of her staying for any longer than necessary, but right now it is necessary that she continues to conduct these negotiations".
