Back in management after eight days - Ranieri handed Roma job

Roma have appointed Claudio Ranieri as head coach on a deal until June 2019.

Claudio Ranieri has been named the new manager of AS Roma until the end of the season. "We have one objective remaining this season and that is to finish in the highest possible league position and secure qualification for the Champions League".

Eusebio Di Francesco has left Roma a day after their knockout loss in the Champions League to Porto. Claudio ticks all those boxes and he's very excited to take on this challenge.

Despite making the flawless start with a dramatic 3-2 win against Southampton, the Italian tactician only went on to lead Fulham to three wins from 17 matches.

An ecstatic Ranieri said he was happy to return to Italy and could not turn down the offer.

"I wish Roma a lot of success in the future", said Monchi in a statement released by the club.

Ranieri was sacked by Fulham last month as the Premier League outfit labors in the relegation zone, and served in the same position at Nantes after leading Leicester City to its awesome PL title. "When Roma call you, it's impossible to say "no", he said.

The Guardian have Ranieri as the favourite for the Roma job, with Di Francesco losing his job after his side were knocked out the UEFA Champions League.

Domestically, Roma now sit fifth in the Serie A table, three points behind Inter for the final Champions League place.

During his first spell in charge of Roma, Ranieri led the team to a second-place finish in Serie A, two points behind Inter Milan.
