Two Highly Contagious Cases of Measles Reported in CT

So Clark County, Washington (Vancouver) has an outbreak of dozens of cases, one of which is from across the river in Portland.

California state Sen. Richard Pan, a pediatrician who sponsored his state's bill, said he got death threats over it and had anti-vaccination advocates jam his phone lines and harass him on social media.

This was amidst the clarification from the Department of Health (DoH) that no deaths had been linked to Dengvaxia and calls from doctors' group Doctors for Truth and Welfare to "halt the continuous spread of unproven claims of deaths caused by the dengue vaccine by the same unqualified but noisy people who are largely responsible for the fall in vaccine confidence in the country".

Last year, there were 17 outbreaks and about 350 cases in the United States.

The misinformation that has fueled the decline in vaccination rates, largely born from a debunked assertion that vaccines cause autism, seems to be as contagious as measles itself. Anyone who has signs or symptoms of measles should contact their healthcare provider.

Three new cases of measles were confirmed by health officials in Houston on Monday, making it the latest city to have the once-eliminated disease appear in recent weeks. A measles infection can cause low vitamin A levels even in well-nourished kids, so supplements can help restore normal levels as the body heals, while helping prevent eye damage and blindness.

The report also indicated that around 70 percent of children age 13 to 17 were vaccinated against four common strains of meningococcal disease.

Dr. Waldorf also said, "Pregnant women can become very, very ill with measles and it can result in preterm birth and complications for their child".

It would not be unusual to see so many headlines about measles. if this were 1919.

A number of specific details about the cases in Houston have not been publicly disclosed, including how it is believed that the individuals contracted the disease and if they were previously vaccinated.
