Terminal Evacuated Following Incident at Brisbane Airport

The man who allegedly made bomb threats at Brisbane's worldwide airport while wielding a knife is expected to face court.

A 50-year-old man has been charged following investigations into an incident at the Brisbane Airport last night.

"I think this photo behind us clearly indicates just the extraordinary lengths that a person has gone to to create a perception of risk, fear and threat", Commissioner Stewart told reporters on Sunday.

Following a swift and extensive security response, the man was taken into custody by police who used non-lethal weapons to subdue him.

Police will allege the exclusion zone in Surfers Paradise was a precaution related to the Brisbane Airport incident.

"A man has been transported to a police station where he is to be interviewed". He was arrested soon after.

"He's been examined by [paramedics], he has no significant injuries", Superintendent Tony Fleming said.

The most serious charge was threatening to destroy an aviation facility, which carries a potential sentence of 10 years in prison.

Officer Jarius Daugherty said in an email that the rapper, whose given name is Shad Moss , was arrested early Saturday. Looks like he will be able to process out of the Fulton County Jail by Saturday evening.


"I will say that the police officers who were dealing with that in close proximity showed a great deal of bravery, and the outcome of no loss of life here is a good outcome", he said.

"The words and behaviours of the alleged offender gave police cause to need to check a number of locations on the Gold Coast for improvised explosive devices".

Assistant Commissioner Peter Crawford said the tactical decision made at the time was suitable to contain the alleged offender.

He has not been publicly named and will appear in a Brisbane court on Monday.
