The outbreak near Portland has sickened 35 people in OR and Washington since January 1, with 11 more cases suspected.

The Oregon Health Authority confirmed one case of measles in a Multnomah County resident on January 25. The highest number of infections there in over two decades and more cases are popping up in states across the U.S.

Dr. Nancy Messonnier, the director of the CDC National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases says, "it's those that are unvaccinated that put us all at risk".

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee declared a state of emergency last Friday.

Instead, prosecutors say individuals who had access to the evidence in the case may have spread it. Lawyers for Concord Management had no immediate comment.


"We've since looked at millions of kids completely debunking that there's any link between autism and the vaccine", said Alok Patel, reminding that anti-vaxxer movement is the leading culprit of the current measles outbreak in the United States. One dose of the measles vaccine gives 93 percent lifelong immunity; a second dose between ages 4 and 6 provides 97 percent immunity. And say they're seeing about five new cases each day.

Measles is extremely contagious, and can be serious, especially for young children.

There is now a measles outbreak that started in Washington and has made its way to OR, and anti-vaxxers are the sole cause of this retro death threat.

Nearly everyone who is not immune will get measles if they are exposed to the measles virus. But measles is still a big problem in other parts of the world, and travelers infected overseas can bring the virus back and spread it, causing periodic outbreaks.

Thirty-one of the confirmed patients had not been vaccinated against measles.

But the vaccine is less effective in those under a year old which is why it is generally not given to infants. "I'm just so scared", she said.

Measles symptoms include a fever, rash, cough, conjunctivitis (red watery eyes) or a runny nose.

Two children who traveled to Hawaii were not contagious when they flew, Melnick said, and they were quarantined in the islands once they arrived.

Health officials are urging anyone who has been exposed at an identified location and believes they have symptoms of measles to call their health care provider prior to visiting the medical office to make a plan that avoids exposing others in the waiting room.
