As mentioned, Manny Machado and Bryce Harper have the ability to shape the future of Major League Baseball, so in turn, these predictions are "way too early". According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Sox are more engaged with Machado than Bryce Harper and made an offer to the 26-year-old infielder. That aligns perfectly with the Dodgers refusal to go ten years which the Nationals offered Harper at the beginning of free agency. The Nationals reportedly presented him with a 10-year, $300 million contract extension prior to the 2018 regular season coming to a close.

That could then leave the door open for the Nationals to make a similar offer to the one they reportedly made in September.

With plenty of suitors, and maybe even some lurking in the shadows, here are the top five potential destinations midway through the offseason as Spring Training approaches next month. The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal points out it could be beneficial for Machado to wait for Harper if he does re-sign with the Nationals. With Machado already having very public meetings with those two teams and the Yankees, who have downplayed any interest in Harper, it's been believed that Machado would be the first to sign.

After losing Robertson to the Phillies, the Yankees may focus on bringing back reliever Zach Britton, according to Fancred's Jon Heyman. Scott Boras, who is Harper's agent, could be returning to it before making a decision on his client's next destination. The 31-year-old left-hander joined NY last July in a trade that saw the Yankees send three prospects back to the Baltimore Orioles.

One other team to look out for, due to their financial freedom at the moment, is the Philadelphia Phillies. Those pitchers might not be as flashy as Kluber or Bauer, but would still be effective without depleting prospect depth.
