Flu activity at highest level in Kentucky

IL has been experiencing a slightly higher activity level, earning "local activity" status, which indicates recent lab-confirmed influenza outbreaks in a single region and/or an increase in influenza-like illness cases.

"The flu seasons last anywhere from six to 12 weeks, up to 18 weeks".

Dr. Rodriguez says flu season is expected to last from now until the end of March. She adds that many times the season peaks around January and February, so it is not too late to get the flu shot.

"We got ours in September because we were going on vacation and we wanted to make sure we were covered", Hemshrot said. The main flu strain now circulating is the Influenza A/H1N1.

Wash your hands often and avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. There has been a special concentration in very young kids. "Also keep in mind to cover your cough and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth because germs are spread this way".
