Nancy Pelosi is vacationing at Hawaii resort during shutdown

President Donald Trump threatened Friday to seal off the US-Mexico border "entirely" if Congress does not approve billions of dollars in funding for a wall.

Trump tweeted: "We will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with".

The shutdown has been triggered by Trump's demands for United States taxpayers to stump up five billion U.S. dollars for the border wall, around a quarter of the total estimated price tag.

Congress adjourned for the week without a resolution in sight.

He's made similar threats in the past without following through, and it is Congress, not the president, that appropriates aid money.

Two Tourists, Tour Guide Dead After Bomb Explosion Near Giza Pyramids
Ten Vietnamese tourists and the Egyptian driver were wounded when the device, hidden near a wall, exploded, officials said. The bus hit the device after it went off its planned route without alerting security forces, Mr Madbouly added .

White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney said on "Fox & Friends" that Trump is also nixing his plans for New Year's because of the shutdown.

He blasted Democrats, including Senate leader Chuck Schumer, for supporting border security measures - including a wall - in 2006 and 2011 before abandoning the position when President Trump took office.

The House and the Senate convened for just minutes on Thursday before gaveling closed until next week.

Then, members of the Democrat-run House and the Republican-led Senate will have to get to work on figuring out how to fund the remaining portions of the federal government that weren't covered by those bills.

Meanwhile, the American Mirror reported, another top Democrat in the House, Maxine Waters, fled the country without resolving the shutdown crisis and was vacationing in the Bahamas.

Though Obama's tweet had nothing to do with Trump's wall, and 45 has even criticized Obama's brisk deportation rate when questioned about his administration's immigrant detention camps, the current U.S. president feels pressure to make right on controlling the narrative in regard to his major campaign promise - especially in anticipation of a second presidential run in 2020.

But even that may be hard without a compromise because the Senate will remain in Republican hands and Trump's signature will be needed to turn any bill into law.

Trump long promised that Mexico would pay for the wall, but Mexico refuses to do so.

Democrats will not consider any offers that have not been publicly endorsed by Trump himself, he said.

"So, we have bills that get taken right out from that paycheck and how are we going to pay them?" she said. It was unclear how Trump's threat to close the border would affect his efforts to ratify an amended North American free trade pact.

No signs of a deal to end partial government shutdown
Mr Trump said he envisions a wall so tall "like a three-story building", that only an Olympic champion would be able to scale it. Banderas laid out a series of reasons why the wall won't be built, including the enormous cost of buying up land on the border.

As a result, he said, "we will be cutting off all aid" to El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, impoverished, often risky countries where American assistance aims to boost democracy, human rights, education and security.
