The visitors began the day positively through Mayank Agarwal and Rishabh Pant. It was a poor batting display by the home team's batsmen, who were done in by their own indiscretions rather than the vagaries of the MCG pitch.

Pace bowler Ishant Sharma removed Finch caught at short leg. Harris fell three overs later, caught at fine leg off Bumrah's bowling after the batsman top-edged a pull shot.

It left the home side - chasing India's mammoth first-innings tally of 443 for 7 declared - tottering on 89 for 4 at lunch.

Resuming the second session at 89/4, Australia immediately lost the in-form Travis Head (20) with pacer Jasprit Bumrah breaking through his defence to get his third victim.

Morning showers threatened to delay the start of play on day four but the covers came off and Cummins was soon charging in, seeking to back up an astonishing burst on day three in which he claimed 4-0 in eight consecutive deliveries.
