Sarkar box office collection Day 4: Vijay sets the cash registers ringing

The issue over actor Vijay's Tamil film "Sarkar" blew over Friday with its producers voluntarily cutting scenes, including an apparent reference to late chief minister J Jayalalithaa and criticism of welfare schemes initiated by her, and the AIADMK government welcoming it.

Released earlier this week on the festive occasion of Diwali, "Thalapathy" Vijay's Sarkar has been facing a major setback after a particular scene in the film irked the ruling state government.

"The protests will not continue", he said. Also a woman character's name, apparently referring to the late AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa, was muted after backlash from the ruling party workers.

While Sarkar is running in theaters and hitting the numbers at the box office, the film fell into quite a couple of troubles with the last being Tamilnadu Minister Kadambur Raju demanding a couple of controversial scenes be removed from screening.

"In future, filmmakers should avoid including scenes that would hurt the sentiments, especially relating to Amma's (Jayalalithaa's) sacrifices and hardwork", he said. "I strongly- condemn this act", the superstar tweeted in Tamil.

Tamil Nadu politics turned ugly on Thursday night after a sensational tweet by Sun Pictures, the makers of controversial film Sarkar, said that cops had arrived at the residence of film director AR Murugadoss to arrest him. A scene where a mixer grinder was being burnt has been deleted. Meanwhile, the makers of the film have reportedly agreed to make four cuts in the film.
