During his campaign, the right-winger imitated US President Donald Trump's strategy of aggressively confronting the media, taking aim at Globo TV and Brazil's biggest newspaper, the Folha de S.Paulo.

According to Brazil's Superior Electoral Court, Jair Bolsonaro of the Social Liberal Party won the country's presidential run-off on Sunday.

Although politicians of all stripes have fallen in the "Car Wash" probe, Moro has been accused of being particularly merciless on the left - especially former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who had been trying to stage a comeback in this year's presidential race.

"I think there's a great opportunity here for the PT and other parties to put themselves on the side of good, to rally around issues historically linked to fundamental and individual rights", said Cesar Zucco, a political scientist at the Getulio Vargas Foundation. Bolsonaro had not formally invited Moro as of Tuesday afternoon, and the judge remained noncommittal on the proposal.

De Bruyne had been making just his fourth appearance since returning to action after a two-month absence due to ligament damage in his right knee.

He also floated Moro as a possibility for one of two Supreme Court positions set to be vacated during his term.

"I plan to speak with him, to find out if he's interested and, if there is interest on his part, he will certainly be an extremely important person in a government like ours".

Earlier in the day, Environment Minister Edson Duarte said in a statement that he was surprised and concerned by the announcement about plans to combine the agriculture and environmental portfolios.

Brazil's national industry confederation criticized the idea.

"To increase deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions is to leave each and every one of us more vulnerable to an increasing risk of climate extremes", said Carlos Rittl, executive secretary of the Brazilian Climate Observatory.

Bolsonaro's team confirmed Tuesday he would combine the two ministries, drawing condemnation from activists who warned the move would subordinate environmental regulation to agrobusiness in a country that is home to some of Earth's most vital natural resources, including the Amazon rainforest. "This undermines the competitivity of Brazilian agribusiness, which depends on strong environmental governance, and makes Brazil a pariah in the worldwide scene".

The teens' bodies were wrapped in Palestinian flags and carried by mourners who shot in the air as they chanted "God is great". The area where the incident occurred has never been used as a site for protests. "These are small children", he said.

In Sao Paulo - the largest city in the country - hundreds of people gathered on the central Paulista Avenue to also protest against president-elect, victor of last Sunday's elections with 55 per cent of the vote.
