During victim-impact statements, Andrea Constand spoke very briefly, simply telling the court the hand down "justice as the court sees fit".

Cosby's wife Camille was absent.

Cosby, he said, has shown repeatedly that he feels no remorse over his actions.

Cosby's lawyers argued that the state law on classifying sexual predators is unconstitutional. "How does he fight off the people who try to extort him on a walk to the mess hall?" He appeared downcast, his eyes failing to meet the camera, in a mug shot released by authorities.

But with all of the accusations levied against powerful men, Cosby is the first to be convicted. He also offered Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele the alternate option of incorporating their testimony into the prosecution's statement.

"We are grateful that the court understood the seriousness of Cosby's crime and sentenced him to prison", said Jodi Omear, vice president of communications at RAINN.

Constand stood at Steele's side but shook her head to say she had no comment.

Bill Cosby is due to be sentenced for his sexual assault conviction from earlier this year in a two-day proceeding starting on Monday. It is his fame and his fortune and his phony philanthropy that has allowed him to get away with impunity.

Allred said she believed the sentencing would be "sending a message" in the #MeToo era.

O'Neill heard arguments on Monday morning on whether to formally deem Cosby a "sexually violent predator" under state law.

Kristen Dudley, a psychologist with the state sex offender board, told the court on Monday that Cosby met the criteria to be labeled a predator and that those people were likely to reoffend.

Cosby was convicted in April of three counts of aggravated indecent assault for drugging and assaulting Constand at his home in 2004.

Constand, 45, said her training as a professional basketball player had led her to think she could handle anything, but "life as I knew it" ended on the night that Cosby knocked her out with pills and violated her.

Cosby's lawyers have asked for bail.

Deputy Attorney General suggested secretly taping Trump
John McCain, who died away last month, for sinking the GOP health care bill, though he did not mention the late war hero by name. Sessions recused from that issue soon after he took office, to Trump's dismay, and Rosenstein later appointed Mueller.

Prosecutors had hoped to have some of the other accusers address the court at the hearing.

Although Weinstein's story arguably caused a bigger impact, Cosby is far more recognizable as "America's Dad" for his long-standing role on The Cosby Show.

Cosby has been on house arrest since in April. He faces a sentence of probation up to 30 years in prison.

Several of Cosby's victims arrived to court for the sentencing, including supermodel Janice Dickinson.

Sonia Ossorio, president of the National Organization for Women of NY, credited Cosby's accusers with helping pave the way for #MeToo. Cosby declined to participate in the evaluation by Dudley, who said she came to her determination by reviewing trial transcripts and other reports.

The stunning outburst marked a stark contrast from Cosby's relatively quiet public profile in recent years. It serves inmates with special needs and has separate housing units for geriatric prisoners and programs for sex offenders.

Still, others aren't convinced that carceral feminism-defined by activist Angela Davis in her 2016 book Freedom is a Constant Struggle as "criminalization and incarceration for gender violence"-will solve the fundamental problem of sexual abuse".
