Storm Helene is forecast to impact the United Kingdom with powerful gusts reaching 70mph and heavy rain from around 6pm this evening.

"Areas of low pressure containing what's left of Storm Helene will still provide moisture and energy which will impact the United Kingdom quite a bit as we go into the early part of next week".

There remains large uncertainty in the exact route Storm Helene will take, however, a spell of very strong winds is expected, initially for parts of south-west England and west Wales, then later south-west Scotland and the southeast of Northern Ireland.

Some parts could see highs of 79F (26C), which is 7C (13F) to 8C (15F) above average for the time of year, the Met Office said.
