False-Flag Chemical Attack Is Coming in Syria, Warns Russia

The conflict's three powerbrokers - regime allies Russian Federation and Iran and rebel backer Turkey - agreed at a summit last week to "stabilise" Idlib, but few details emerged on how they would do it.

According to recent reports, on Saturday, a top America's general said that he was recently involved in a routine dialogue which was held between officials in the White House concerning military options in case Syria ignores US warnings on using chemical weapons in the anticipated assault which is expected to go down on the enclave of Idlib province.

The UN's new humanitarian chief warned Monday that a large-scale military operation against the rebel-held Syrian province of Idlib could create "the worst humanitarian catastrophe" of this century.

Various so-called "de-escalation zones" were agreed among the three guarantor powers in Syria as a result of multiple rounds of talks, including Idlib.

Delegations from the three countries will be in Geneva on Tuesday to meet the UN's Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned Syria and its backers Tuesday against launching a full-scale offensive in Idlib, saying the rebel-held province "must not be transformed into a bloodbath".

Since 2015, Idlib has been home to a complex array of anti-regime forces: secular rebels, Islamists, Syrian jihadists with ties to Al-Qaeda - and their foreign counterparts.

Idlib is estimated to be now home to about three million civilians, including one million children, many of whom have already fled fighting elsewhere in Syria, or have been evacuated there under resettlement deals, as well as tens of thousands of fighters.

During his remarks, Russian Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia repeated the claim that "Syria has no chemical weapons", and said it would be folly on a humanitarian and political basis for the Assad regime to use chemical weapons, as it would prompt the United States and others to attack inside Syria.

Last week's summit in Tehran between the three sides did not produce any agreement, as Iran and Russian Federation rejected Turkey's call for a continued ceasefire in the rebel bastion.

Fuel Prices Increased. Left declares Bharat Bandh on Monday
While the Congress and other opposition parties claimed the bandh was a success, the BJP claimed it was a flop. Petrol in Mumbai scaled to Rs 88.12, up 23 paise, while diesel was priced at Rs 77.32, up 23 paise, on Monday.

A further complicating factor for Turkish aid agencies is that many civilians themselves are now carrying arms for protection, making it harder to distinguish them from fighters.

"We've been hearing the regime and Russian Federation threaten to bomb us with chemical weapons", said Hadheefa al-Shahhad.

One source close to the White House told Al-Monitor that the USA administration was resigned to the Syrian offensive and acknowledged there were few options to stop it.

"Innocent people must not be sacrificed in the name of fighting terrorism", he wrote. "This includes some 1.4 million internally displaced persons (IDPs), the majority of whom are women and children, who came to the region from other areas".
