FIFPro, the worldwide players' union, and FIFA have announced the 55 names in contention for the FIFA FIFPro World11 2018.

The final World XI will be announced on Monday 24 September alongside The Best FIFA Men's Player and Coach, The Best FIFA Women's Player and Coach, The Best FIFA Goalkeeper, the FIFA Puskás Award, the FIFA Fan Award and the FIFA Fair Play Award for 2018.

However, only three midfielders make the all-star side, along with a goalkeeper, four defenders and three attackers.

De Gea, on a five-man shortlist that includes last year's victor Gianluigi Buffon, is joined by Manchester United teammate Pogba, who has been strongly linked with an exit from Old Trafford. Virgil van Dijk, the most expensive defender in history at £75 million, is among the top defenders while Pogba, Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and N'Golo Kante are in the running as part of the midfielders category.

Everton's Yerry Mina, who is yet to make his debut for the club following his Deadline Day move from Barcelona, is included in the list.

Among the 55 players, there are 26 nominees from Spain's La Liga - 12 players from Barcelona, 11 players from Real Madrid and 3 players from Atletico Madrid.

Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been included after winning a third successive Champions League title with Real Madrid. He has already won nine World XI awards, including last year's.

Other defenders on the shortlist include England internationals Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier, as well as World Cup winners Raphaël Varane and Samuel Umtiti.

The World11 award has entered the 14th year since its inauguration by FIFPro in 2005 before being merged with Federation Internationale de Football Association in 2009.

But he told Spanish broadcaster TVE that he plans to be back in the game very shortly. "No matter which coach I always give everything for United - I cannot say more".
