Though most people (us included) thought this meant a trailer, today Entertainment Weekly released a cover story about the movie, complete with our first official look at Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. One of the most intriguing was that the film will dispense with comic book movie law and not take the form of a conventional origins story.

Currently, Ant-Man and the Wasp is Marvel's first movie that includes a female hero in the title, while Captain Marvel starring Academy Award victor Brie Larson is the studio's first female-led superhero film. This will be the first time a superheroine will lead a Marvel film.

But why did the actress, who is known mostly for dramatic works like Room, decide that she wanted to join the MCU as Captain Marvel?
