The White House, in a statement sent on Twitter by Mr Trump, said the US President believes North Korea is under "tremendous pressure" from China but that Beijing also was supplying Pyongyang with "considerable aid", including fuel, fertiliser and commodities.

Following the Singapore summit, the military suspended the massive Ulchi Freedom Guardian exercise in South Korea, which involves thousands of American troops each year.

Trump abruptly canceled his top diplomat's planned trip to North Korea on Friday, publicly acknowledging for the first time that his effort to get Pyongyang to denuclearize had stalled since his summit with the North's leader.
