Swing-voter Rand Paul: I'll vote for Kavanaugh on Supreme Court

Doug Jones of Alabama said he is keeping an "open mind" on President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and is not anxious about a flurry of advertising pressuring him to confirm or reject the nominee.

Kavanaugh was sitting down Monday with Sen.

On the Democratic side, Schumer has said that there is "simply no basis to withhold Judge Kavanaugh's staff secretary record" from senators' review. As one of the most libertarian-leaning Republican senators, Paul disagreed with Kavanaugh's support for warrantless collection of communications metadata by the United States government in the interest of national security.

Jury selection to begin in Manafort trial
Ellis III will try to weed out potential prejudice in what has become a highly publicized and politically divisive investigation. As campaign manager, Manafort was responsible for all aspects of Trump's White House bid, including shoring up delegate support.

Paul followed up his initial comment with an entire series highlighting why he was backing Kavanaugh. He also praised Kavanaugh's record on property rights and views on due process, war powers and separation of powers, as well has his "strong defenses" of the First and Second Amendments.

"As the senator from West Virginia, I have a constitutional responsibility to advise and consent on a nominee to fill Supreme Court vacancies and I take that responsibility seriously", he said in a statement. The senator held a roundtable in Charleston earlier this month with constituents and various organizations regarding Kavanaugh. Judge Kavanaugh will have my support and my vote to confirm him to the Supreme Court. Almost all Senate Democrats are taking the position that they will not meet until Republicans agree to their absurdly overbroad and dilatory document requests. Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, who voted to confirm Gorsuch past year, also are being watched closely. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, one of a handful of Democratic senators seen as potential swing votes in the confirmation fight. However, I'd say that, barring the discovery of something adverse and major in Kavanaugh's past, his chances of winning 50 Republican votes are good.

Mr. Manchin said he hadn't made up his mind, but his office released photos showing the two men shaking hands and smiling broadly as they talked for two hours.

Chen said she "fully supports" her husband, and will stand by him as well as by the words in his statement . Members of the CBS board of directors say they will take the allegations seriously.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) has said that Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing and vote will take place this fall, and that he expects the new justice to be seated by the next Supreme Court term, the first Monday in October.

In HuffPost/YouGov's polling, net support for confirming Kavanaugh was 13 percentage points lower than net support for Gorsuch; that gap was 6 points in a Fox News survey and 7 points in both Pew Research and Gallup's polling.
