Cowell was arrested Monday night on a Bay Area Rapid Transit train in the San Francisco Bay Area, about a dozen miles (19 kilometers) from the MacArthur station where the sisters were attacked. I am relieved to learn that the suspect was apprehended after an anonymous tip from a BART rider led to the arrest of the suspect. A train bound for Antioch was eventually intercepted at Pleasant Hill, at which point Cowell was arrested.

18-year-old Nia Wilson and her sister, Tashiya Wilson, were attacked and stabbed while riding the train at the MacArthur BART Station on Sunday night.

Rojas said after the stabbing, Cowell fled to the parking lot and changed clothes.

BART Police Chief Carlos Rojas called the series of deaths "an anomaly" at a Monday press conference, saying the attacks are the "highest priority" for transit police, reported KPIX.

Police in Oakland are looking for a white man described as heavyset and in his 20s or 30s who's responsible for the murder of a black woman and the stabbing of her sister. Rojas called it "one of the most vicious attacks I've ever seen".

Cowell, who has been convicted of felony second-degree robbery charges, battery, and being under the influence of a controlled substance, is still considered armed and risky, and anyone who encounters him has been urged to call 911.

Nia's slaying was the third BART-related death in a week, Rojas said.

The wounded sister of an 18-year-old woman fatally stabbed in the neck while transferring trains said she never noticed the felon who authorities say attacked the sisters at random.

"I am supposed to be planning her graduation, not her funeral", said Ansar El Muhammad.

Police say vigil held at a BART station later swelled into a crowd of about a thousand that marched downtown.

"He didn't know us, we didn't know him", said Ms Wilson, who was injured in the attack. Cowell reportedly approached Wilson and her sister and slashed their throats with a knife.

Many of us woke up Monday morning to another tragic story that occurred Sunday night in Oakland, California.

Trump employed similarly heated rhetoric when responding to threats and missile tests by North Korea a year ago . They did not include benchmarks for Iranian democracy or human rights.

Ebony Monroe, a cousin of the victims, said her cousins were returning home in Oakland after celebrating Nia's late boyfriend's birthday.

"We gotta talk about Black girls, and Black women, and Black babies", Brooks said. "I will demand justice for Nia". The victim, identified as Don Stevens, a transient, was punched at the side of his head by an unidentified suspect, according to BART surveillance videos.

"She had a job interview at 2 p.m. today", Greyson said between sobs. By Monday night, Nia Wilson's name was a trending hashtag on Twitter. She says when other BART passengers attempted to stop Cowell, he ran from the scene.

This video shows heated confrontations between police and protesters in Oakland.

In 2016, a hospital in Richmond obtained a restraining order against Cowell, who was homeless, for allegedly showing up repeatedly in the emergency department and harassing and threatening staff members, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. "They asked him what his name was". She says he's lived in and out of this Concord home and over the years has been in trouble with the law. "That's what we're out here doing, supporting our family".

Police were at the station after receiving a report of a man with a knife.
