North Korean table tennis players arrive in South Korea

South Korean officials have said players from the two Koreas may compete in combined teams in some events as a goodwill gesture.

Spokeswoman Heather Nauert said North Korea's Vice Chairman Kim Yong Chol had agreed in earlier talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to meet on or about Jul 12 in Panmunjom with an American delegation over the remains.

US and North Korean officials had originally planned to have talks on the issue of remains on Thursday in Panmunjeom, but the North did not show up.

For January-June, it rose to $133.76 billion, compared with about $117.51 billion in the same period previous year . China imported American goods worth $13.6 billion in June while exporting $42.6 billion to the United States.


Singapore was the host of a historic summit between Trump and Kim last month when they agreed to work toward the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, without describing when and how it would occur.

Three vehicles of US forces in South Korea, flying United Nations flags, were spotted heading to the border earlier in the day, Yonhap said. North Korea then proposed meeting U.S. military officials on Sunday, U.S. and South Korean officials have said.

Pyongyang later proposed a military generals' meeting with the U.S. -led U.N. Command on Sunday, and Washington accepted it.

Seoul's Defense Ministry said the remains of an unidentified allied soldier, presumably American, found in South Korea in 2016, will be sent to the United States.

Sunday's meeting reportedly started at about 10 a.m. (1 a.m. GMT) at the inter-Korean border. But the North could also demand something in exchange for the return or raise other issues related to the armistice that ended hostilities in the Korean War.

Just hours after Pompeo left Pyongyang on July 7, the North said it offered to discuss declaring a formal end to the Korean War, but the US side showed little interest, giving "certain conditions and excuses".

Thirteen medical teams - each with its own ambulance and helicopter - await the boys and their coach , according to Reuters . The boys, aged between 11 and 16, and their 25-year-old coach belong to a local team called Moo Pa ( Wild Boars ) Academy.


Sunday's talks were expected to focus on such details as when and how the remains should be transferred.
