Trump orders U.S. flags lowered in honor of Capital Gazette shooting victims

Trump on Tuesday ordered USA flags be flown at half-staff on federal property in honor of the journalists killed June 28 in Annapolis, Maryland. Through Maryland's congressional delegation, Buckley put in a request to the White House over the weekend to lower the American flags.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Buckley made the request after Republican Governor Larry Hogan had ordered Maryland state flags to be lowered from Friday through Monday. White House press secretary Sarah Sanders Tuesday said that the initial rejection of the request didn't come from the president himself. This was an attack on the press.

President Trump has previously ordered flags to be flown at half-staff for other mass shootings, including the tragedies in Las Vegas; Santa Fe, Texas; and Parkland, Florida.

"I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities overseas, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations", Trump said.
