Paula Godwin was taking a morning walk with her two dogs Friday when she nearly stepped on a rattlesnake.

Todd, however, jumped up and got between Godwin and the snake, saving her from a bite to the leg.

Godwin was about to step onto a rattlesnake when Todd jumped between her and the venomous reptile. But, she said, her "hero of a puppy" saved her.

Godwin told 12 News she broke plenty of traffic laws as she rushed Todd to a hospital. "Please say a little prayer for my sweet hero".

The story was soon being shared all over Twitter when the We Rate Dogs account tweeted a tribute to Todd on Sunday.
