US House defeats immigration bill, postpones vote on a second measure

It appears Trump was referring to a viral photo of a crying Honduran toddler pictured near the U.S. -Mexico border while her mother was searched and detained. "And I had no clue at that point that I would ever be at the White House", one mother, who wore the ashes of her son, killed by a drunk driver, in a locket around her neck. "I don't know if you're going to be deported or removed and have never actually found and/or had contact with your child", Henshaw added.

An ICE officer replied in a note in English: "I do not have this information".

Protestors demonstrated Friday morning outside the suburban Washington home of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, two days after Trump announced her department would take over the handling and processing of families at the border. The mothers themselves could not be contacted because access to detained immigrants is hard.

President Donald Trump's order to stop separating migrant children from their parents spread confusion and uncertainty along the border, with no clear plan to reunite families but with growing signs the administration is dialing back its "zero tolerance" policy on those entering the US illegally.

"Our members wanted to express themselves on an issue they care a great deal about", Speaker Paul Ryan said. CNN then returned to coverage of illegal immigrant families being separated after crossing the U.S. border.

"Heartland Alliance will not turn our back on vulnerable children or their parents", she said.

Shaqiri snatches last-gasp win for Swiss over Serbia
Xherdan Shaqiri scored a late victor to help Switzerland stun Serbia 2-1 in their second Group E game on Friday. So after a highly entertaining match at the Kaliningrad Stadium, here are five things we learned.

On Monday, more than 600 Methodist clergy and laypeople signed a denominational complaint against Sessions, who is a Methodist, claiming he participated in child abuse, discrimination and "dissemination of doctrines contrary to the standards of doctrine of the United Methodist Church", for his role in the Trump administration's harsh border policies, according to Religion News Service. "We can not allow our Country to be overrun by illegal immigrants as the Democrats tell their phony stories of sadness and grief, hoping it will help them in the elections", he tweeted.

Joined by Mr Pence, Mr Trump said he was committed to putting a stop to "death and destruction caused by people who shouldn't be here" as he rattled off a string of crime statistics to condemn what he described as the weakest immigration laws "in the history of the world".

But House GOP leaders still were pulling out the stops to bring reluctant Republicans on board in hopes of resolving broader immigration issues ahead of the November midterm election. "Dems are just playing games, have no intention of doing anything to solve this decades old problem".

Hours before US lawmakers vote on immigration, President Donald Trump has suggested that any measure the lower house passes would be doomed in the US Senate anyway.

All 435 House seats and a third of the 100-member Senate will be up for grabs in November. "What is the objective of the House doing good immigration bills" when Senate Democrats are unlikely to pass the Republican bills, he wrote.

The administration also has sought a permanent legislative fix on the issue, but the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday rejected a bill favoured by conservatives that would have halted the practice of splitting up families and addressed a range of other immigration issues.

In abandoning the compromise bill and delaying a vote until after the November elections, Trump risks losing $23 billion in funding for border security included in the proposal, some of which would go toward building the wall along the US border with Mexico. But after a meeting with House Republicans late Tuesday, Trump was unable to convince conservatives to back the compromise legislation.

"It's a horrifically chilling signal", said another retiring Republican, Rep. Mark Sanford of SC, who recently lost his primary election after frequently criticizing Trump.

"It takes the wind out of the sails in what might have been a fairly productive weekend in terms of looking for a compromise", Sanford told CNN.

Led by Curbelo and Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Calif., many are from states with large populations of young "Dreamer" immigrants who now face deportation threats under Trump's decision to end the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

Immigrants like Ever Castillo and Diva Funes were among those affected by the mixed signals from the U.S.

A left-wing Sanchez corner was completely missed by Al Owais, giving Suarez a simple close-range finish into an unguarded net. The Saudis continued to move the ball around but barely threatened the typically gritty Uruguay defense.
