'It's Trump's party now' and Republicans could pay in November

U.S. Rep. Tom Rice faces a Republican challenger along with Sanford.

In the most dramatic result in primaries across five states Tuesday, Sanford was the second incumbent House Republican to lose a primary this year - the latest victim of intense divisions among the GOP in the Trump era.

Sanford became embroiled by scandal during his time as governor when he left the state unannounced, with staffers offering the now-famous explanation that the governor was hiking the Appalachian Trail.

GOP Rep. Barry Loudermilk of Georgia argued that Republicans in Congress still have to call out the President when necessary, given the oversight role of the legislative branch.

There was also the return of Sharron Angle, the conservative who once ominously threatened to "take out" then-Sen.

Loudermilk warned that going public with one's disagreements, as Sanford did, is not the most effective approach.

Sanford conceded to state Rep. Katie Arrington after 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, telling the crowd that he is a "realist". Just today, when NYT reporter Alan Blinder asked Sanford if he was confident in the primary, the congressman reportedly replied, "I think confident is too strong a word".

Germany omit Manchester City's Leroy Sane from 23-man squad

Sanford is a former governor who has never lost an election in eight races in SC, even after he admitted to an affair with a woman in Argentina.

In the coming weeks, Arrington plans to campaign in communities that "have not heard the Republican message".

The retired educator predicts this will drive the final nail into the coffin of Sanford's political career in SC. In doing so, Arrington handed Sanford his first election loss ever.

Before that affair was revealed in 2009, Sanford served three terms in Congress and two terms as South Carolina's governor.

But Trump says Rep. Katie Arrington "was such a good candidate, and Sanford was so bad, I had to give it a shot".

Congressman Mark Sanford lost his first political race.

Democrat Jennifer Wexton won a six-way primary race and will take on Republican Barbara Comstock, one of the Democrats' top targets in their push to pick up the 23 seats they need to claim a majority in the House.

Trump was nominated for the Nobel peace prize
It is unclear whether he was nominated for this year's prize, but he was also put forth as a candidate in 2016 and 2017. Other U.S. lawmakers, along with foreign-policy analysts, are less sanguine about the meeting between Trump and Kim.

"He is MIA and nothing but trouble", Trump said.

Sanford has called Trump's tariffs on aluminium and steel imports "an experiment in stupidity", said Trump has done some "weird stuff" in office, and even suggested that Trump was "partially" to blame for divisive rhetoric that led to the congressional baseball practice shooting past year.

One White House aide said Trump's disdain for Sanford should not have come as a surprise to the conservatives now protesting the President's intervention in his primary. That just crossed the 50 percent threshold to avoid a runoff later this month between the top two contenders. She is tough on crime and will continue our fight to lower taxes.

There were full primaries for two open seats in Nevada, both held by Democrats but considered competitive in the fall, the 3rd and 4th Congressional Districts.

Longtime state Rep. James Smith has won the Democratic nomination in South Carolina's gubernatorial race.

"We're going to have a lot of fun between now and November, folks", Stewart told a raucous crowd at his victory party Tuesday evening.

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster was forced into a runoff after he failed to secure over 50 percent of the vote.
