Dennis Rodman will be in Singapore for Trump-Kim summit

It comes as Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow hopes a summit between the two helps defuse tensions.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders referred to the June 12 summit as the "first meeting".

The planned meeting between Trump and Kim is slated to take place on June 12.

The location offers excellent security, a track record of putting together top-level worldwide gatherings and long-standing ties with North Korea.

Hosting the historic meeting between Trump and Kim represents a diplomatic coup for Singapore, which lies nearly 5,000 kilometres south of the North Korean capital, Pyongyang.

Trump, who had previously canceled the summit, abruptly announced the meeting was back on.
