D'Souza is 57 years old, married to Deborah Fancher and has one child. Former U.S. Attorney at the Southern District of New York, Preet Bharara also denied political motivation.

Trump previous year pardoned former Phoenix-area sheriff Joe Arpaio, calling him a patriot who was unfairly treated by the Obama administration.

D'Souza's wife confirmed Cruz's role on Twitter.

D'Souza was indicted in 2014 for violations of campaign finance laws.

India to ignore Iran, Venezuela sanctions
There are apprehensions that the Chabahar project could also suffer delay in the wake of the USA sanctions. But Iranian officials have said their biggest fear is the possible loss of major customers for Iran's oil.

Bharara indicted D'Souza in 2014 for using "straw donors" to funnel $20,000 to Wendy Long's 2012 US Senate campaign in NY.

Blagojevich, the Democratic former governor, began serving a 14-year prison sentence on corruption convictions in 2012.

D'Souza acknowledged that he had two close associates each contribute $10,000 to the Senate campaign of Wendy Long with the understanding that he would reimburse them.

In 2014, when he was charged with violating federal election campaign laws, D'Souza alleged that he was the victim of selective prosecution, targeted for his conservative beliefs. D'Souza said as much as recently as 2017.

Oil takes a hit as major producers consider output boost
A reversal of the 487,000 barrel-a-day cut by Saudi Arabia and Russian Federation would help plug that looming hole in production. West Texas Intermediate was down 1.8 percent at $66.67 a barrel in NY , after climbing to as high as $72.83 on May 22.

The conservative pundit's pardon is the fifth of Donald Trump's presidency.

"Lawmakers must act now to close New York's double jeopardy loophole and ensure that anyone who evades federal justice by virtue of a politically expedient pardon can be held accountable if they violate NY law".

The decision sent shockwaves through the political world - D'Souza has for decades thrived as an incendiary mouthpiece for a hardline fringe faction of the American right. The President is handing these things out like political party favors.

D'Souza is a contentious figure who once accused then-President Barack Obama of adopting "the cause of anti-colonialism" from his Kenyan father in a 2010 Forbes magazine cover story when Obama was in office. The career prosecutors and agents did their job.

Steady rise in supermarket fuel prices
The petrol price was seen at Rs 74.80 per litre, the highest since September 2013, and diesel was seen at Rs 66.14 per litre. Petrol was sold at Rs 86.08 per litre in Mumbai, against Rs 85.93 on Sunday, data from the Indian Oil Corp's website showed.

But the Obama Justice Department threw the book at D'Souza, anyway: Had Trump not offered his mercy on Thursday, D'Souza would still be on probation. "Issuing pardons used to be a more common practice".
