Cashier-free Amazon Go stores are coming to Chicago and San Francisco

The Seattle Times spotted job postings for store managers in each city.

Four months after Amazon opened its first futuristic convenience store in its hometown of Seattle, the company said on Monday that it will bring new Amazon Go locations to San Francisco and Chicago later this year.

The first Amazon Go store opened up in January. In February, real-estate tracker Curbed took note of a building permit for construction of a 625-square-foot Amazon store in Chicago's Loop district. Remember the Amazon Go store in Seattle?

Once inside, cameras in the ceiling, sensors on the shelves and a massive amount of computing power track every item they pick up and what goes into their pockets or bags. In response to an inquiry, a spokesperson confirmed that the company was planning to open stores in each city, but didn't specify when.

In addition, the San Francisco Chronicle reported on May 13 that a formal announcement of an Amazon store near the city's Union Square was expected in the coming weeks. No checkout is required; people are charged for the items they take shortly after leaving the store. Not only that there are no cashiers, Amazon Go stores don't even have checkout counters, thereby eliminating the need for shoppers to wait in line.

The 11 key-factors they looked at include restaurants participating in Prime Now, Amazon bookstores, free two-hour Whole Food delivery and Amazon Lockers. Each store will also have staff members who will be there to make sure the shelves are restocked and assist new customers who are hesitant about how it all works.

This price increase is related to fears that the global supply of oil will be squeezed if the Iran nuclear deal falls through. The U.S. administration also believes that the lifting of sanctions against Iran under the accord only benefits the country.
