PC Digital Game Gifting is Here

After introducing a limited version of digital game gifting a year ago, Microsoft has expanded the service to incorporate all Xbox One games. All you need to do is head to the Microsoft Store on Windows 10, Xbox One, or online, pick out a game, and then select "Buy as Gift" when you checkout. For some reason, you can not gift more than two discounted items within a 14 day period. Instead you simply have the ability to purchase a game as a gift instead of (or in addition to) buying it for yourself. Once the email is entered, the user receives an email with details on how to redeem the code in the Microsoft Store to download the game. This limit is applicable only for gifts on discounted rates but not for products which are available at their full price.

The new move is on the same line of last fall when Microsoft allowed its users to digitally gift some Xbox One digital games, Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass subscriptions. Finally, the recipient of the gift must be in the same region as the gift-giver. In case you're a insane person, you also can't gift a game that is already free.

However take note that there will be some limitations imposed on Microsoft Store gifting. Now, all Xbox One games qualify for digital gifting. According to Microsoft, it seems that this feature has been popular amongst Xbox gamers, so much so that they've made a decision to extend it to the Microsoft Store as well.

Microsoft wants Xbox Live and the Windows 10 Store to become go-to destinations for PC gamers, and the cross-platform capabilities of stellar Xbox Play Anywhere titles like Sea of Thieves, Forza, and Gears of War is a juicy carrot indeed. Seven months on, and Microsoft is expanding gifting even further.
