Garrett attempted to persuade Witten to play another year after meeting with Jones and Witten one day before the 2018 NFL Draft. His 15 seasons are tied for the most in Dallas with defensive end Ed "Too Tall" Jones, safety Bill Bates and late offensive lineman Mark Tuinei.

"Jerry you have been a father figure to me for most of my life", Witten said to Jones.

Is Justify a Triple Crown threat? Hold your horses
Justify may very well turn out to be just like Curlin, not quite up to task for the Derby but an eventual Horse of the Year. There's the Horse or Horses Who Didn't Race at Two, thus we must hear how nobody has done it since Apollo in 1882.

Witten will call his first Cowboys game on November 5 when Dallas hosts the Tennessee Titans at AT&T Stadium.

Witten will now become the third former Cowboys player to work as a lead network broadcast analyst, joining former QBS Troy Aikman (Fox) and Tony Romo (CBS). The 11-time Pro Bowler could have become the longest-tenured player in the history of a franchise with five Super Bowl wins. Witten walks away ranked fourth all-time in receptions, behind only Jerry Rice (1,549), Tony Gonzalez (1,325) and Larry Fitzgerald (1,234). Only Gonzalez has more receiving yards among tight ends in National Football League history. "Many times over the years I'd wake up and jump out of bed and catch myself saying "how lucky am I" to be able to play the game of football for the Dallas Cowboys".

Witten was a regular in the captains' workouts in February and March at The Star, and until Monday, he had not missed a workout since the official offseason program began.

Here's a closer look at Witten's retirement gift.

Witten holds several Cowboys records for pass-catching and longevity. Swaim is only the member of that group with a career reception.

Jason Witten called time on his career and will now join ESPN as an analyst.

In his last two seasons, Witten caught a combined 132 passes for 1,233 yards and 9 touchdowns, with most of those coming from Prescott. He was added to the Pro Bowl as a first alternate. But his absence will be most acute in the locker room.
