Trump honors crew of ill-fated Southwest Airlines Flight 1380

The plane, a Boeing 737 bound from NY to Dallas with 149 people aboard, made an emergency landing in Philadelphia as passengers breathing through oxygen masks that dropped from the ceiling prayed and braced for impact.

President Donald Trump met Tuesday with the crew and passengers of Southwest Flight 1380, calling their actions on the troubled flight last month an example of "the great character of our nation". "So thank you very much".

On the chaotic flight, several passengers rushed to aid Riordan, a mother of two, who was partly sucked out of a window near the failed engine.

The plane was traveling from NY to Dallas. Shultz was one of the first female fighter pilot in Navy history and has also said flying is her way of witnessing God firsthand. Flight attendants were "brave, composed and helpful" throughout the ordeal, William Madison, 56, told USA TODAY. She waved off accolades, saying it sometimes was easier to be the pilot rather than a passenger.

That said, the litigation has already begun.

Southwest has declined to discuss pending litigation.
