- Despite rumours that Apple Music executive, Jimmy Iovine, is planning to leave Apple later this year, Apple has reported that the promotion of Schusser will have no impact on Iovine's standing with the company.

Variety reports that Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has promoted Oliver Schusser to become head of Apple Music Worldwide.

Schusser has a fairly close relationship with Apple's SVP of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue.

Schusser, who recently played a key role in Apple's recent $400m acquisition of Shazam - which is now awaiting regulatory approval - will relocate from the United Kingdom to California for the new position. He will make the move from London to California.

The music-streaming service told The Post on Wednesday it has reached the 40 million paid subscriber milestone.

Spotify, however, remains far out in front, with around 75m subscribers around the globe. The latter, which went public earlier this month, has 70 million subscribers shelling out $9.99 a month (or $14.99 monthly for a family of six or less).

Apple's products and services business, which comprises Apple Music, the appstore and I-Cloud, is now becoming increasingly essential to this Apple's fiscal prognosis as the sensible phone industry has matured and iPhone sales growth has slowed. While Spotify does offer a free tier of service supported by ads (which has another 70 million users), Apple offers a three month free trial that is now being used by 8 million members.
