They could have won the Premier League on Saturday had they beaten local rivals and closest challengers Manchester United, but were beaten 3-2 at home despite having led 2-0 at half time.

On Tuesday, City will host Liverpool at the Etihad in the Champions League quarter-final second leg, where they will be hoping to overturn a 3-0 deficit.

City still boast a 13-point lead over United at the top of the table.

"My dream was that, as in the first half when we didn't concede anything, it would happen again in the second half", he said.

"I went to congratulate him on the result", he told reporters as quoted by Manchester Evening News.

"In Barcelona (against Bayern in 2015) 71 minutes (it's) 0-0, (at) 90, 3-0. I have to think about it".

Goals from Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan put the Premier League leaders ahead in the first half, then Raheem Sterling could have, and really should have, increased City's lead when he squandered two one-on-one chances against David De Gea.

Turning his attention to the Champions League, Guardiola nsisted that a comeback is possible if City are clinical.

"I came here to try to do what we have done this season and in the first half".

"But maybe we will improve for the future on that, to realise that sometimes it's not enough what you've done to win the games". I will recognise I am not good enough or the way we want to play is not able, but I don't think so.

"We make a good performance in the second half".

However, even their firepower will count for nothing if City defend as they have in losing back-to-back games for the first time this season.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have combined to win the Champions League for the past four seasons and both look well on course to reach the last four once more.

Guardiola continued to stress that you have to take your chances at this level, adding: "Football is boxes at that level. At that level that is the difference".
