More Arizona National Guard troops will follow on Tuesday, the state's Republican governor Doug Ducey said on Monday.

But there are limits - laid out in the aftermath of Civil War - that restrict the use of federal military personnel domestically. "Not because they are actually enforcing the law, but they are able to do other kinds of work that assists the Border Patrol", Martinez said.

The governor confirmed that news in a tweet. He said the country should be focusing on security and economic cooperation "without further militarizing border communities".

On Monday, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Blackhawk helicopter was in in the Roma area.

Walker sent a letter Monday to Democratic U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan voicing his support for what he called Trump's "aggressive actions to secure our nation's southern border".

Less clear is what the soldiers will be doing and, more to the point, how long they will stay. Ducey said the mission was "open-ended".

Brewers fall to Cubs 5-2
The Pittsburgh Pirates started the season as hot as anyone in the National League and so far are flawless on the road. Chatwood has shut down the Pirates in his two career starts, conceding only two runs in 12 innings.

The Republican governor accused the federal government of ignoring the border "for almost a decade". Each of the 54 organizations is headed by an adjutant general, who reports to the chief of the National Guard Bureau, a four-star general, who has been a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff since 2012.

"I don't think this is a partisan issue or an identity issue", Ducey said. New Mexico's Republican governor has said her state will take part in the operation, but hasn't announced a deployment.

Trump said last week he wants to send 2,000 to 4,000 National Guard members to the border, issuing a proclamation citing "the lawlessness that continues at our southern border".

Astrid Dominguez, director of the ACLU Border Rights Center, said in a statement that the president "is trying to create a crisis where there is none".

Hull says the troops could help with air support, surveillance and repairs of infrastructure along the border so that Border Patrol agents have more time to enforce immigration law.

By the way, Trump indicated last week that it was unusual for National Guard troops to be assigned to the border: "We really haven't done that before, or certainly not very much before", he said in remarks at the White House.

Asked how much the administration expected to allocate to the initiative, Homeland Security said it could not provide an answer, and the Department of Defense did not immediately respond.

"We will be there for as long as we need to make sure that we are not dealing with these enormous amounts of drugs being brought through our border here in New Mexico, as Texas is going to do and Arizona is going to do". "For Arizona, it's all about public safety". But his order to do that did not mention Title 10; instead, it invoked a federal law called Title 32, under which governors retain command and control of Guard members from their states, with the federal government paying for the deployment.

Greg Abbott announced he would raise the total number of Texas National Guard troops to "more than 1,000" along the U.S. -Mexico border.

The Arizona deployments began Monday.

"Thank goodness we have a federal government that will finally pay attention to what's happening on the border", the governor said. Organizers talked about they not at all meant to go to the USA border.

"In my opinion, illegal immigration pales - it pales - in comparison to the drug problem that we have in this nation". He suggested the money for deployment would be better spent upgrading the state's six worldwide ports of entry.
