For Equal Pay Day, we asked five women how the gender wage gap has impacted them personally and what it's really like asking for more at work. Although former President John F. Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act in law in 1963, a woman is still paid just 80 cents for every dollar a man makes - a statistic that remains unchanged for over a decade.

In a three-pronged attack, NATS plans to address its 19.8% gender pay gap hinges heavily on bolstering its recruitment strategy to introduce more women to the company.

Before women start looking sideways at their male colleagues, let's understand what drives the differences in what men and women earn on. On average, women net 4% less than men in the same job. The research revealed that women in the finance industry and health industry fare incrementally better than their female peers in tech, earning 7% less than men. She said: "CMI recognises the concept of the "accidental manager".

Right now, women in NY make 89 cents for every dollar men make in similar jobs.

According to new research conducted by Lean In and SurveyMonkey, once people know there's gender pay gap, most agree it's a problem. It also finds that there is a gender-based wage gap in every single state and the District of Columbia.

Once the new state requirements took effect in 2016, she and other women working in the Fresno office received pay raises, though they were not retroactive, Rizo said.
