Kim Jong Un Ready To Discuss Denuclearisation With US

Officials told the network that CIA Director Mike Pompeo, whom Trump has nominated to be secretary of State, has been leading back-channel talks for the summit, which is slated for May.

South Korea's presidential office said yesterday that while they can not confirm whether such secret talks have been taking place, it is certainly a "good sign" in paving the way for what would be the first summit between North Korea and the US.

South Korean officials had told Donald Trump that Mr Kim was willing to meet him to discuss de-nuclearisation, but the administration comments on Sunday mark the first time the United States has officially confirmed the information with North Korea itself.

Michael Pompeo, the U.S. Secretary of State, and the team from the Central Intelligence Agency are dealing with the preparations to the summit.

CNN quoted U.S. officials as saying that the summit will be held at the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar - a proposal that North Korea has already relayed to the U.S., according Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun.

North and South Korean officials are meeting at the truce village of Panmunjom to discuss setting up a hotline between the leaders of their countries.
