Five-time world darts champion Eric Bristow has died aged 60

Eric Bristow, the five-times world darts champion, has died aged 60 after suffering a heart attack at Liverpool's Echo Arena.

Reacting to his death, Taylor said: "Words can not express how sad and shocked I am to hear the bad news about Eric's passing".

Eric Bristow's I'm a Celebrity campmates have paid their respects to the late darts player after his shock passing on Thursday (05Apr18).

Bristow was one of the founder players when the PDC (then World Darts Council) was formed in 1993 as the sport's leading stars broke away from the British Darts Organisation.

"We asked why he was up here and he said he was up in Liverpool to watch the darts at the arena and asked us if we were going".

Eric Bristow: ÒDarts is drinking, Ó he said in his autobiograhpy. Aften more than a decade without a major tournament victory, he retired from professional darts in 2000, at the age of 43.

He was divorced in 2005 and met his partner Becky six years later.

In the 1980s, Bristow owned a pub in Stoke-on-Trent, which he called The Crafty Cockney, where a young metalworker named Phil Taylor would drop in to hone his skills at the dartboard.

Bristow was 11 when his father gifted him a dartboard.

Although Taylor's meteoric rise in the early 1990s rise coincided with Bristow's downfall, the two remained close friends.
