U.S. President Donald Trump renewed calls for Congress to pass immigration legislation on Monday, one day after saying he would not consider a deal to protect young immigrants.

Our immigration system is far from flawless, and has been regarded by many as broken since before Trump took office.

One of Trump's signature campaign promises was to build a wall along the southern US border and have Mexico pay for it, something Mexico has repeatedly rejected. "They need to step up and do more".

"Time and time again, the president has walked away from bipartisan proposals that are exactly what he asked for", said Drew Hammill, a spokesman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

And Shulkin pushed back at an apparent White House attempt to portray his ouster as a resignation, not a firing _ a distinction that could stay the president's free hand in designating an interim replacement from outside the department.

Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), a supporter of immigration reform who represents Miami and is retiring this year, took a sarcastic approach: "Such a strong message of love and new beginnings from @realDonaldTrump on Easter Sunday".

The court's move effectively nixed a March 6 deadline that the administration had set for ending DACA.

He argued that USA courts will utilize existing laws to keep the borders open to mass immigration, insisting that Democrats will stymy any tougher border control legislation until the president concedes to Democrats' "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" - also known as "massive amnesty".
