Arnold Schwarzenegger undergoes emergency heart surgery

According to TMZ, the 70-year-old actor underwent a catheter valve replacement Thursday at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, but complications developed during the procedure.

In 1997, Schwarzenegger had surgery to fix a defective aortic heart valve at the age of 50.

A team of doctors was prepared to perform the surgery in case the valve replacement did not work.

Arnold Schwarzenegger underwent an open-heart surgery on Thursday and is now in stable condition, his spokesman confirmed to The Washington Post.

The operation was necessary to replace a valve that had originally been installed in 1997 for a congenital heart defect.

The pulmonic valve sends blood from the heart's lower right chamber to the artery that delivers blood to the lungs. He was in stable condition on Friday.
